2545 years ago, universally most respected Teerthankar Bhagwan Shree Mahaveer preached (Divyadhwani), the nature of the entire cosmos to beacon the path of liberation on this sacred Indian soil (Bharatkshetra). After his liberation (nirvana), jain ascetics (Acharyas) composed several scriptures to maintain the continuum of Bhagwan Mahaveer’s preachings. There was a great saint named Acharya Shree Kundkunddev in the same sacred tradition during the first century of Vikram Samvat (V. S.). His status is most imminent in the Digambar Jain tradition. Acharya Kundkunddev through his elite scriptures (like Samaysaar, Pravachansaar, Panchastikay-Sangrah, Niyamsaar, Ashtapahud and more) has preserved the principles preached by the Lords (Teerthankars); thereby the path of salvation. Acharya Shree Kundkunddev is felicitated as Omniscient of this ‘dark age’ in Suri Shri Shrutsagar’s ‘Mokshprabhrut Tika (Commentary)’, and paid tribute as:
“Bestowed with five names – Padmanandi, Kundkund-acharya, Vakragriv-acharya, Ella-acharya and Gruddhapichchh-acharya, possessor of miraculous power of walking four fingers above the ground in space, one who had paid homage to Bhagwan Simandhar in eastern Videh and through the scriptural knowledge gained from him, has addressed the liberation seeking souls of India (Bharatkshetra)….”
Amrutchandracharya was one of the most enlightened souls in Acharya Kundkunddev’s lineage. He has crafted many pious scripture like Glory of soul (Atmakhayati-Samaysaar’s commentary), Tatvapradeepika (Pravachansaar’s commentary), Samayvyakhya (Panchastikay-Sangrah’s commentary), Purusharth Siddhi-Oopaay, LaghuTatvaSpot to name a few. Amrutchandracharya had no desires for fame and hence has not written a single word about his worldly life. Shrimad Rajchandraji was another noticeable enlightened soul (Gyani) in the recent times. He taught spirituality to the common people and established an institute ‘Param Shrut Prabhavak Mandal’, to propagate religious philosophy. The people of Gujarat-Kathiawar will remain indebted to him forever.
In the present era, to the great fortune of spiritual aspirants of this region, the supreme benevolent, epoch-maker Pujya Gurudevshee Kanjiswami took birth in Umrala-a small village in Saurashtra, in the year V. S. 1946 (1890 AD). Pujya Gurudevshree’s conscience was searching for eternal truth right from his childhood and as destiny would have it, in the year V. S. 1978 (1922 AD) the ultimate scripture on spiritual science Acharya Kundkunddev’s ‘Samaysaar’ came to his holy hands. He identified this composition of spiritual wealth as the most precious jewel like an accomplished jeweller. With benignity of Samaysaar, he sighted his inner self. This also transformed his pious soul. The lost disposition found its own destiny and the stream of applied knowledge found its direction. Jineshwar Sunandan Pu. Gurudevshree’s knowledge buds bloomed like never before. As Pu. Gurudevshree made in-depth study of ‘Samaysaar’, he experienced profound spiritual wisdom of Acharya Kundkund, which was inherited by the Acharya from Omniscient Lord & who saw that the essence of their preachings was retained very carefully.
Pu. Gurudevshree pondered over ‘Samaysaar’ for many years. His benevolence towards the truth seekers led him to think “All worldly souls should understand the value of this invaluable treasure gifted by the Omniscient Lords and end their misery from the time immemorial”. As a result of this kind thought, Pu. Gurudevshree started giving sermons on Samaysaar. Thereafter, for 45 years, he settled at Songadh – a delightful village in Saurashta and gave insightful lectures on various shastras such as Panchasikay-Sangrah, Pravachansaar, Niyamsaar, Ashtapahud, Ishtopadesh, Samadhi-Shatak, Bruhad-Dravya-Sangrah, Purusharth Siddhi-Oopaay etc.
An educational institution was started in presence of Pu. Gurudevshree at Songadh to instill true and best of Jain culture in children to propagate this rich traditions of lords (Teerthankars). The institute was named after revered Sh. Kundkundaacharyadev and Pu. Gurudevshree as Sh. Kundkund-Kahan Digamber Jain Vidyarthi Gruh. It started on 27-8-1957 (Bhadarvo Sud 3, V. S. 2013) in Songadh where along with worldly education, religious education was also imparted. On 16-6-2010 (Jeth Sud 5, V. S. 2066), under the aegis of Shri Anantrai A. Sheth of Mumbai; Shri Kahanjiswami Digamber Jain Vishranti Grah Trust, Mumbai reinstated this school as Kahan Shishu Vihar. Children at Kahan Shishu Vihar are taught Religious as well as Conventional Education. The religious education aspects of Kahan Shishu Vihar is managed by Shree Kundkund-Kahan Parmarthik Trust, Vile Parle, Mumbai.
Shri Kundkund-Kahan Parmarthirk Trust, Vile Parle, Mumbai (inspired by Shri Shantilal Ratilal Shah family) has taken forward the outstanding ‘Sh. Kundkund-Kahan Digamber Jain Vidyarthi Gruh’ institute. The trust aims to carry forward the work of pious institutes and activities initiated in presence of Pu. Gurudevshree. The trust envisions that children learn best of the religious and worldly education. The religious education will enable the children to realize their true selves and continue the rich tradition of Bhagwan Mahaveer, Acharya Shree Kundkunddev, Amrutchandracharya, Shrimad Rajchandraji, Pu. Gurudevshee Kanjiswami, Pu. Bahenshree Champaben and so on. And at the same time high quality of worldly education will enable them to self sustain in present society. Thus creating a well rounded responsible mumukshu….
